Dance competition in EuroGames Helsinki will be the European Championship in Same-Sex Dance and is hence organised in cooperation with ESSDA, the European Same-Sex Dance Association.

The competition will take place in Töölö Sports Hall, which is located close to the Olympic Stadium and the city center. The sports hall has a long history: it was one the venues in Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and it still serves as a popular sports hall. In 2012 the Helsinki Open Dance Festival was organized there.

The dance competition takes place Thursday June 30 – Saturday July 2. Dates of each dance style will be published in the beginning of year 2016.

The following dance styles are offered: Standard, Latin, Ten dance and Show dance. Participation in max. three style and age category combinations is included in the registration fee. Additional competitions are available for extra charge of 20 €. All couples should be of the same sex. Detailed rules, including age limitations, are provided by ESSDA and are given  here. For Show Dance ESSDA has provided a separate set of competition rules, which can be downloaded here. Please, read them before registering.

The title of European Champion will be awarded to the highest ranking couple in A and Open levels. EuroGames Helsinki medals in gold, silver and bronze will be awarded for the final three in each division.

The dances we will be dancing during the Dance Championship:

  • A-division will dance Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Fortrot and Quickstep in Standard Dance. Cha-cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive in Latin American.
  • B-division will dance Slow Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep in Standard Dance. Cha-cha-cha, Samba, Rumba and Jive in Latin American.
  • C- and D-division will dance Slow Waltz, Tango and Quickstep in Standard Dance. Cha-cha-cha, Rumba and Jive in Latin American.
  • E-divison will dance Slow Walz and Quickstep in Standard Dance. Cha-cha-cha and Jive in Latin American.
